There is no doubt that Punjab is a leading State for food grain and milk production and the people of Punjab have already tapped all possible resources to optimise the production in these fields. But due to limited land resources, further appreciable development is not possible. So it becomes imperative to go in for industrial development for providing self employment to the unemployed youth of Punjab and to improve their lifestyle. (Front view of the Polytechnic)

Consequently, the socio-economic development of Punjab depends upon industrial development and trained man power. For achieving this objective, Technical Education has a vital role to play. The Punjab Govt. has established many Polytechnics in order to provide adequate training to youths in the State. This will benefit the State in particular and the nation on the whole. Govt. Polytechnic Mohali (Khunimajra) was set up in 1994-95 and its first batch of students admitted in July 1996. All the courses are affiliated to the Punjab State Board of Technical Education and Industrial Training, Chandigarh. Location Govt. Polytechnic Mohali (Khunimajra) is located at a distance of about 2 Km from Kharar on Kharar - Landra - Banur Road, 11 Km from Mohali, 20 Km from Chandigarh Bus Stand, 27 Km from Chandigarh Railway Station and 30 Km form Chandigarh Airport.

(Workshop at the Polytechnic) Objectives The Polytechnic has been designed to train supervisory manpower. This supervisory man power is to be sandwiched between the technicians (trained by I.T.I.'s) and the Engineers. Through the Polytechnic level, institution is to train fundamentally good supervisors as per the needs of the industry, the emphasis, in Polytechnic education is laid on to strengthen the theoretical background as well as practical training. The Polytechnic trainees are to be trained in such a fashion that they develop self confidence in order to be successful supervisors and be good entrepreneurs. For such purpose, the industrial personnel have to be invited to deliver lectures to Polytechnic students and arranging industrial visits in order to have good exposure to the industrial environment.

The institute has also to help revising curriculum of courses keeping in view the requirements, of industry. The institution interacts with I.T.I.'s and engineering colleges of the area regarding sharing of faculty, sharing of equipment and development of knowledge of faculty. CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Cultural The students of this institute participate in various cultural activities N.S.S. Camp N.S.S, camps are regularly organised in the institution. These camps are initiated under able and expert guidance of Senior Staff of the institute. Games Students of this institute take part in inter Polytechnic games. Students participate in Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton, Foot Ball, Table tennis games.
