R&D Centre for Bicycle & Sewing Machine, Ludhiana
R & D Centre came into existence to provide the vital inputs to the Bicycle & its Component manufacturers. The main objective of this project was institution building to provide various technical facilities for uplifting the technology level of the small scale industries. The institute was set up in 1981 by Punjab Govt. with the assistance of UNIDO/UNDP. 

The center is an autonomous society & is controlled by Governing Council consisting of Punjab Govt official, representatives of industry & trade, trade associations & academicians.

Objectives

  • To create and provide facilities to the industrial units to diversify & increase productivity.
  • To facilitate the industry to increase the export of the their products.
  • To provide trained workforce to the industry.
  • To develop & introduce new technologies in the industry. 
Library & Documentation
R & D Centre has rich collection of Technical Books & Handbooks on different subjects, journals & publications, Various National/International Standards for the use & reference of Industry.

 Workshops

The Institute has well equipped laboratories, workshops, design section, training department & library. The installed state of art equipment with well trained & experienced manpower provide sufficient strength to institute to assist the industries in their technological requirements.

Well established CAD Section with Server & Seven Work Stations to undertake sound design of:

  • Bicycle & its components
  • Jig, Fixture and Tooling
  • Special Purpose Machine and Equipments 
  • Quality Control Gauges

Facilities

  • Computer aided designing.
  • Precision tool production shop for Jig/Fixtures, gauges & other tools.
  • Testing facilities viz; Physical , Chemical, Spectroscopic , Mechanical , Metallurgical Testing of Ferrous & Non- Ferrous materials & alloys, Fatigue testing of Bicycle components.
  • Calibration for Metrological parameters, Metrological instruments, Pressure gauges, Vacuum Gauges, Force Calibration, Volume Calibration & Hardness Test Block Calibration
  • Special Purpose Machine Equipment Building for increasing quality & productivity of bicycle component.
  • Mass production services for Cold Forging, Pressure Die Casting, Induction Hardening & CNC Machining.
  • Testing Equipment fabrication for static load & fatigue testing of bicycle components & sub assemblies.
  • Developing new technologies such as Cold Forging & Forming & Die Casting.
  • HRD & training of man power.

Training

  • R & D Centre has excellent infrastructure to impart skill, specific need base engineering & management skills training modules through formal & informal education & training programs.

Long Term Courses

  • 3 Year Diploma in mechanical Engineering & Production & Industrial Engineering with intake of 60 seats each. Both the courses are approved by AICTE & Punjab State of Board of Technical Education & Industrial Training . The admission is through Joint Entrance Test (JET) conducted by State Board of Technical Education.

  • 2 Year Certificate Course in the trade of Machinist , Machine Maintenance & Quality Assurance Inspector with intake of 20 seats  each. The course is affiliated with Punjab State Board of Technical Education & Industrial Training. The admission is through entrance test & Interview conducted by R & D centre.

Short Term Courses

  • Industry specific training modules in Testing , Quality Assurance, CNC Machining  & Design for different  duration are available on request.

  • Specific Technical Up gradation courses.
